Local broadcast legend Jerry Dunphy used to say, “From the desert to the sea to all of Southern California, a good evening.”

I’m driving from Mom’s in the desert to our home by the sea. And, by some miracle, I’m actually earlier than usual today. So, I contact my wife for advice on what to do with my time.

Her response (really): “Go chase some wild asses.”

So, I did:

Afterwards, I resumed driving home and told my wife that I did what she told me to do.

She told me that when I get home, “I can get lucky tonight”.

As I drive off into the sunset, I think to myself: After nearly 32 years of marriage, I can say this: My wife gets me.
