The Cook I Want To Be

My favorite bookstore in Sonoma, Reader’s Books, has a great cookbook selection.  I happened across this book.  It begs the question, exactly what kind of cook do I want to be?

My friends and family would say either Jacques Pepin or Julia Child. They would be sure that the are correct. They would be wrong.

Nope. The cook I want to be is Wolfgang Puck.  Why? Having met him, he seems like a nice guy, and certainly has talent. But the real reason I would want to be him is because he has all the money.

  1. I enjoyed your writing on your favorite chef, although comparing Julia Child to Wolfgang Puck is difficult. They’re both unique entrepenuers, amazng chefs, and consstantly reinventing themselves. Ultimately its their personalities that kept them in the public eye. Wolfgang Puck’s resturant in the Woodland Hills Promenade was a frequent favorite of mine. It was reasonable, yet gourmet with an amazingly inventive menu. Always full of surprisses. There was always the added question as to whether Wolfgang Puck was goinng to wander around having conversations with the guests. A special floor show for no extra charge! Unfortunately I never had the pleasure of meeting Julia Child but no doubt it would have been an amazing experience as well. eading the sheltered life that I do, I never heard of your third chef. Maybe I will someday.

    1. I agree. We’ve Met Wolfgang Puck a few times at his restaurant and I appreciate that he visits with his guests.

  2. Yeah, but Julia Child was a bad-ass. She worked for the CIA, invented shark repellent, and other fun stuff.
