The Most Thankless Job In Hollywood

So, we saw the new Tom Cruise movie “Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning” today.  Gotta admit, it was fantastic.  I have always appreciated stunt work that is not done by some dweeb on a computer somewhere in the world. Tom knows this – he’s the same age as my wife, and I don’t see her jumping out of helicopters.

What got me was the credits. There is a staff headed up by a “Safety and Health Advisor”.

I imagine it goes this way:

Mr. Advisor: “Mr. Cruise, as your Safety and Health Advisor, I must tell you that nothing planned for this movie is either safe or healthy.”

Mr. Cruise:  “OK. We’ll jump a motorcycle off a cliff.”

Mind you, when I got home I looked up this stunt on you-tube.  He didn’t jump motorcycle off a cliff one single time.  He did it six times.

I’m pretty sure that Mr. Advisor simply gave up at this point.

  1. My takeaway from your review is that your wife is much smarter than Tom Cruise, and Mission Impossible is accurately titled barring a few accidents and casualties here and there!
